Hi There – I took your advice regarding the YLOD issue with my Original 60GB PS3 and contacted the retailer using your letter example (In this case ASDA) and below is their reply. I would appreciate any advice on what my next recourse should be?

    Thank you for your message.

    Good afternoon,

Thank you for taking your time to contact us about the faulty Playstation 3.

Any retailer within the EU reserves the right to offer a 6 months warranty with any electrical item. ASDA offer a maximum of 13 months. Once out of that warranty we are unable to help you in exchanging or refunding the goods.

Furthermore the product has worked from 07 May 2007 until recently, This is where you need to contact the manufacturer about this problem. The retail isn’t liable for the faulty goods. The Sales of Goods Act 1979 clearly states that a product should be sold originally for the purpose in which it was intended, which given the information it did work for a reasonable time, therefore, ASDA didn’t sell you a faulty product.

However, given this you do have a few options firstly, contacting Sony again and see if there is anything at all they can do, or we do provide a service called the electrical helpline who maybe able to help direct you in the right direction regarding the problem and where to go next, you can contact them on: 0141 418 9299.

Thanks again for taking your time to contact us about this. I hope you manage to resolve the problem.
