Sun T-Shirt Promotion

The Sun promised a free England t-shirt for every reader, inviting them to collect tokens by buying copies of the newspaper on ten consecutive days last month. They were then told they could swap the tokens for shirts at their nearest branch of JJB Sports.

However, Watchdog has received complaints from viewers who on taking their tokens to JJB have been told that the t-shirts have all gone.

The Sun said that readers can send off for the t-shirts instead but there could be a wait of up to 28 days before you receive anything back. Not great news considering the tournament starts in just over a week.

The Sun told Watchdog:

"When setting up promotions we always anticipate how much stock our retail partners will need to meet demand.

This offer has been one of The Sun's most popular with many more people than expected coming in to JJB Sports stores to collect their t-shirts.

This meant a small number of stores ran out of stock before their next delivery arrived.

Since the matter came to our attention, we have taken several steps to make sure everyone who collected 10 tokens will receive their t-shirt as quickly and easily as possible:

- We have organised two additional deliveries of t-shirts to every JJB Sports store across England and Wales. There are now more than 37,000 t-shirts available for collection from over 500 JJB Sports stores.

- We have carried regular updates in the paper every day explaining how readers can get their t-shirts.

- For those unable to make it to a JJB Sports store, we have set up a free-of-charge postal redemption service. Readers should send their 10 tokens and application form to the address below, remembering to specify what size shirt they require (S, M, L or XL):

The Sun T-Shirt Offer
PO Box 121

We are informing readers this postal option may take up to 28 days but in reality we anticipate the vast majority of people will get their t-shirt well before that. We have waived the P&P charge on this option so it will only cost readers the price of a stamp to send in their application form and tokens.

We would like to thank all those who have collected tokens for bearing with us while we do everything we can to meet this unexpectedly high demand. Everyone who has collected their tokens in The Sun will get their free t-shirt at a JJB Sports store or via the post."
