Retrospective claims...are they weaker?

Hi! Id be grateful for some advice please.

Im currently in a dreadful dispute with a garage over a used car I recently bought. In a nutshell, the car broke down after only a matter of weeks and they have blamed me citing an oil problem "you've starved the car of oil". (untrue).

I will be taking further action, but in the interim, I still need to get around because of my job.

Do I:

a) buy a banger thats going to last the duration of the dispute (hopefully)
b) continue hiring, which is proving costly
c) get my car fixed at my own expense (over £1000).

Option C will make my claim a retrospective one - would that weaken my case?

My credit card company is moving pretty slowly on this, and are not in a position to advise me.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
