On 1 October the National Consumer Council (including the Scottish and Welsh Consumer Councils), energywatch and Postwatch were merged to create Consumer Focus. They have 170 staff and have powers to investigate consumer complaints, conduct research and make "super-complaints" about failing services.
We will see how well Consumer Focus works in the next few months, but I wonder if there is likely to be a gap in consumer protection while this new body gets up and running? Perhaps they should have run concurrently with the old bodies for a while.
