I bought a laptop from Comet in June 2009. It became faulty in August 2010 after the 12 months guarantee had expired. Does anyone know whether I can make a valid claim under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as the laptop should surely work longer than 14 months? Also does anyone know if Comet can charge me the cost of them inspecting the laptop or can I ask for it to be reimbursed if the inspection proves that there is an inherent defect. I'm considering taking the matter to the Small Claimns Court as I have been in email correspondence with Comet's Head Office for some time but they just keep asking me to arrange to take the lapotp back to the store I bought it and to pay for it to be inspected and say that they will then tell me how much the work will cost! They say that they are not liable under the Sale of Goods Act unless I can prove that the laptop was faulty when i bought it which I clearly can't do.
