Faulty Dell E228WFP Monitor

Hi All,

I want to know my consumer rights regarding a faulty monitor which Dell say's is covered only by a 1 year system warranty.
I bought the Dell system in September 2008 and the monitor is suffering backlight failure. The monitor is just over 2 years old now and Dell say it is only covered under the system warranty which is 1 year. If the monitor had been bought separetly they say it would have been covered under a 3 year warranty!

Is this legal to reduce the monitor warranty to the same as the system warranty? Surely a monitor failure after 2 years would be considered not fit for purpose? Do I have any grounds to receive a replacement?

Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place, I'm only just off a long frustrating phone call :)
