We purchased an Antique French style Chest of drawers about 8 weeks ago. Its obviously a reproduction and has a slight distressed look to it.

It was delivered to us on the 4th of November and we found about 6 -7 defects, ie below:

  • All nails have been hammered in and are splitting the wood
  • There is a split across the top of the unit all the way along
  • Smells strongly of BBQ sauce? Not a nice thing for clothes.
  • Bottom drawer split and further splits developing
  • 3rd drawer runner snapped
  • back panel flimsy and split on both sides
  • turkeys all rusting
  • split and gaps under the top edge
  • scuffed edges reveal the dark wood

We only got round to unpacking the item on the 15th of November.

We emailed the online company on the 16th and they said they would send the photos to the supplier who delivered the items.

this is their reply:

The chest was delivery on the 4th November and you reported the defects on the 16th November we do advised all defects must be reported within 7 days of receipt of an item.* Also our supplier have looked at the pictures and informed us that these are not defect or damages and its the way the unit is constructed and is meant to be.

What can I do? Surely they can't get away with this?

I didn't read their T&Cs to be honest, silly me, but still, we were in the middle of a crisis at home and we didn't have much time to check the item.

Anything anyone can suggest?

TIA
