Here is a new scam that is trying to get you to download malware on your computer. They want you to open the document they have attached. They tried to  make it sound urgent by saying their may be a payment due - they are hoping you will worry and open the attachment before thinking about it.

You will notice that the email doesn't identify you personally by name or account number
The English is poor e.g."this you are to download"
They don't offer you a phone number or a way to verify the email


I viewed the header (here is how) this email came from Missouri USA. Not exactly where you would expect the Halifax to locate their corporate servers!

Like all these scams we advise to delete the email without opening up the document. If you have opened the document then you should assume your computer is infected and either have it cleaned, do a reinstall or at the very least run several virus scans over the next few days.
