I purchased a new DVD Writer & Player from PC World, I take it home, fire it up going through the set it up and as it's putting files into th eregistry ...my laptop screen flickers and the laptop dies, ling story cut short, the laptop now has the blue screen of death after trying to re-start, it never starts again !!

You can image the catastrophic disaster that this had, thousands of £'s worth of software on the hard drive, emails and goodness knows what else.

I take it back to PC World who refuse to even look at my laptop deny any responsibility. I can prove that the laptop was working right up until the moment I added the new hardware {the DVD was purchased around 4pm and I have mail logs that show sent messages up until the minute the DVD was added}

As I purchased the goods from PC World I wanted to ask the advice of those with perhaps similar experiences and any legal begals out there where I stand legally. Their attitude was that of the usual corporate big boy bad boy and intolerable.

They grudgingly gave me my money back for the DVD but refused point blank to take any responsibility for the damage that this good had caused.

This happened 6 weeks ago and I have had to purchase a replacement laptop and many new replacement software applications that were un retrievable from my old laptop.

I alos engaged the services of 2 'specialist' companies to attempt to salvage the hard drive but neither could get the hard drive to boot up even with all of their specialist software.

Please advise, Thanks in advance for your help, rgs Fraser
