What are my rights regarding a damaged, brand new sofa?

We recently bought a new sofa and when it was delivered we noticed that there were various tears in the fabric underneath it, plus there was a small cut in the leather on the back of the sofa. The shop has said that they are going to talk to the manufacturer but as they are abroad it could be difficult! What are my rights here - am I entitled to a replacement sofa or do i have to accept just a repair? After spending quite a lot of money on this Italian sofa I expected it to be perfect and not looking like it was second hand and I don't really want a bodged repair job either.

Hi there,
You are entitled to either: a full refund / exchange / repair ,
And it is YOUR decision which you want as the sofa is not in a satisfactory condition .

Your contract is with the shop/people you bought it off, not the manufacturer, so you are well and truly in your rights to get them to sort it within a reasonable time frame (5 working days max) .

Sale of Goods Act
