Can they really do this?

I was looking for a car on Saturday. Budget of about 6k. A salesman at one company told me that I could take advantage of their 5y interest free deal, and buy a 12.5k car. The repayments sounded manageable and buying a 59 plate car was attractive.

Anyway I decided to buy the car at the price listed (haggling got me nowhere), except a free tank of fuel. When it came to printing out the deal the usual extras were listed (GAP, Diamondbrite, VED). I said that i was happy to pay the road tax, but didn`t need GAP and didn`t want/need Diamondbrite.

The salesman said they could not sell me the car with 5 years interest free credit, unless I took the Diamondbrite (£200), he even checked with his manager.

Is this legal? Isn`t it tying?

I have not yet purchased the car
