Will try and keep this brief....£2k spent last April on a satellite system that we were sold on the basis that it would work like our old one would i.e. it would work in south of france and other particular areas that we holiday in in our motorhome...we were told it had been tested to barcelon and was fine - we had no prior knowledge of this make/type system and had actually wanted our old one repaired - which they said couldn't be done - they promoted this new system to us and recommended it specifically for our situation and as a "hand-picked" product - which it now seems they know little about really and of course the retailer (a small family business) are now going tit-for-tat on the issue saying they didn't recommend it or sell it to us on the basis it would provide similar viewing range to old one...bla bla bla....household insurance wont touch it as we changed providers just before bought system, old insurance say 180s past that date - so now out of time to claim...vehicle insurance don't cover comsumer issues...we now have 4 page lawyer letter from other party - saying our allegations are slanderous (but how? as we have only put these issues direct to them and noone else) - is the only way forward small claims? whats the chances of success where its our word against theirs?? we paid for it by debit card over phone - the 7 days cooling off is somewhat unreasonable - as the system was for a recreational leisure vehicle - which is only used for holidays - so it wasn't until our first holiday we discovered 1/ there was a problem (which actually turned out to be a proper fault - which the decoder ended up getting replaced) - then 2/ on the next holiday once the thing was meant to be working as it should - we discover that is doesn't do what we were promised it would....also...they are making a point of the fact that we went to the supplier regarding the system probs and not the retailer - when they never gave us any paperwork regarding their T&C and who to contact, warranty info etc. the only piece of paper we got from them at the time had the suppliers contact details on it so we contacted them - would a court look unfavourably on that?? we were poorly informed..hardly our fault...oh the stress....any advice much appreciated please. Many thanks
