Need some help!

Bought a vauxhall zafira lite 2.1 2007 for £5450 on 27th jan 2012

supposedly with a 3 months PART warranty (from a large car dealer)

I was out of the country between 7 feb and 6 march 2012 without the car

On the 14th of march 2012 the gearbox failed.

Taking the car back to the dealers approximately 10 miles away was upto me as that was not covered.

Took it back using AA breakdown cover.

Took a week to replace gearbox (new with 12 year warranty)

Total cost £1400 + VAT

Of which £600 + VAT I had to pay (£720 altogether) LABOUR COSTS???

I said 'why is labour cost so high' the guy says ' well it's a whole days work'

I wanted to come home because i was in utter shock without a job at that time and in huge debt so paid with my credit card. Now my heads a bit clear and doing a bit of research i'm learning about the consumer rights and realizing that i did/do have some legal rights

I had not even driven 200 miles yet with the car.

My issue is would i still be able to get my money BACK for the labour costs i have paid? I wouldn't mind giving the car back and getting a complete refund because i've lost trust, i'm scared a few weeks later something else will happen to the car.

I'm worried the guy will say i agreed to pay for the labour costs so why should he give a refund.
