Hubby recently acquired the Barclaycard 22m 0% card for balance transfers which has a credit limit of £5300. We asked them to transfer 3 balances:
Halifax £1930 (fee = £55.97)
Lloyds £1270 (fee = £36.83)
Tesco £1000 (fee = £29.00)
Only thing is they transfered to Halifax and Lloyds twice charging the exta transfer fees putting him over £2000 over his credit limit and then put a £12 charge on his account for the priviledge of going over the limit which was their bloody mistake in the first place. During converstion on phone with them, they assured us that if the extra money was put straight back on the card that they would refund the fees that they never should have charged. They also assured that this will not show up his credit file as it was their mistake. They said we they couldnt retrieve the moneys themselves as the transfers had already gone through.
We called Halifax and they sent the money straight back to card as a payment. Lloyds wouldnt do it saying it would appear as a balance transfer incurring another fee so instead they put it into hubbys bank account adn wethen transfered it to barclaycard as a payment.
Now llthis is done I stil dont see any fees being refunded and I also note that they intend on charging him interest instead of the 0% he took tha card out on because of the fact that he went over the limit.
Where do we stand on this? How can we insure that they refund the fees, the over limit charge and the 0% rate when the whole darn thing was their fault?

Debtors retreat
You need to follow their formal complaints procedure, this should be on their literature and their website. Normally this requires notification of your complaint in writing, they shoulld acknowledge the letter straight away they then have 8 weeks to rectify the situation, if they don't you can escalate your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

You should not be out of pocket at any time through this error so make sure there are no outstanding charges when they deal with it, it can go on and on otherwise.
