Builder Charging for extras

Hi,
We have had a nightmare experience with our builders for a new kitchen.
After much complaining we are finally ready to pay the last installment and it is £1500 more than what was quoted. These "extras" range from work we thought was already included in the contract (such as kitchen units that featured on the design plans) to work that was requested but we thought was "part of the service" (such as installing 2 power points). This is our first building project and so we werent aware of extras and at no point was it mentioned that there would be an extra charge for any of this - except they told us about a radiator and some shelves.
As the project was meant to take 4 weeks and eventually took 12, and much of the work was sloppy (door installed upside down was a personal highlight) we are reluctant to give them more money.
I should also mention they are part of the Federation of Master Builders and part of there code of practice is to "Confirm verbally and in writing any changes to the work specified or extra costs and agree with the client before such work begins". Do we have a case or are we in the wrong?

Thanks

If you have received a quotation, then that is the amount you should pay, if it was an estimate, then it is a best guess and can be amended.

If you have requested extra work, not included in the quotation, then it is fair enough that you should pay extra but not if it was all included.
