Electronics giants Panasonic have gained a controlling share in Sanyo, thus forming one of the largest electronics companies in the world.

Panasonic to take control of Sanyo in ¥800bn deal | Business | guardian.co.uk

I am wondering if this signals an intent for the companies to move into the growingly lucrative "Console" arena against the likes of Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony? I've often felt that the smaller electronics companies didn't feel able to take on the giants having seen other companies try and fail, in the past. I wonder if this is going to see Panasonic move into this market in the near future or whether it is simply to diversify a little more in other areas, TV's and Blue Ray for example.
