Green Deal Scheme misleading

Hi, I just joined the forum to warn people about the Green Deal scheme.

We were first contacted last May about the scheme and showed interest. After a surveyer came out plus some other phone calls we eventually had a representative in our home a couple of days ago with paperwork to sign.

He told us that the total cost of the improvements to our home which included wall insulation, a new boiler and solar panels was £23,000.

But the only cost to us was £2600. The government would pay the rest.

I signed up, but after reading the paperwork discovered that what the guy had told us was not true. Yes we would have to make a payment of £2600, but after that we would have payments to the electric company until we had made a total payment of over £16,000.

So I just want to warn anyone else thinking of doing this that the sales rep in my case did not make things clear.

I have since cancelled the contract. I'm not saying it's a bad deal but it's not as cheap as they would have you believe.

The company we were dealing with is an Approved Green Deal Company, so being Government Approved does not mean they are trustworthy.
