Too true! a £1.00 HDMI cable will work just as well as a £49.99 HDMI cable! Buy cheap off ebay and save yourself fortunes!

i don't really understand how these cables are so expensive. What does gold plating do that a basic one doesn't?

Very true. The last one I purchased was £4.99 from ebay and works great.
