Scareware is fake security products that actually install malware (malicious software) on to your computer. It is one of most successful malware scams today and is making millions for criminals.

Scareware is when an unsophisticated users are targeted either through pop-up ads, online ads or websites offering a "free computer scan". The scan produces a report showing that their computer is infected with several viruses and malware.

Then it prompts the victim to pay for fake, worthless anti-virus software. The software they download actually infects their computer with malware.

The websites and ads for this scareware looks professional and so are the names. Here are some of the more well known scareware product names being used.
