Imagine your delight as a restaurant owner or manager to get an email booking for 15 people for several days.
There is a new scam going around targeting restaurants. The criminals book a table for 10-15 people who are coming from abroad. When the restaurant confirms the reservation, the scammers ask if they can pay not only the bill by credit card but also their transport costs.
What they want the restaurant to do is to take a credit card charge over the amount of the reservation and give the remaining money to a third party allegedly for transport.
The reality is the credit card is stolen and the transport company is the scammer or an accomplice.
Here is an example of the initial reservation. Note the poor English and the 070 number which is a number that can be diverted to anywhere in the world.
