Has anybody got any good suggestions for a good day out with my young children? I live in London and was thinking of taking them to the Rare Breeds Farm in Kent but it seems quite expensive. If anybody can give me some ideas for entertaining them that's not too expensive I would be very grateful.

We do things like take the kids out for a picnic, go for walks, go to the park, these are things that cost hardly anything but with the right planning, they can be brilliant days out and is good for everyone, we took our kids to the local woods but because it was so hot they where allowed to paddle in the stream, they loved it and we had a brilliant day!

Hounslow Urban Farm is a bit cheaper for a similar experience if you're not a breed specialist! I used to work on an urban farm in Leeds years ago, and visited a few at that time. They were relaxed, friendly places. The one is Bristol has a fab cafe!

When our daughter was growing up we did a lot of camping. We'd do some fishing, spend time on the beach, go for walks. I think very little money needs to spent on times like this, though maybe a little more planning.

Brilliant - have just had a look at Hounslow Urban Farm and it looks great. Think we might go there. And there are woods near us so I think a picnic is also on the agenda - cheers everyone! Hope the weather lasts ...
