Grrrrrrrr I cannot stand pagemakers who decide it's a good idea to subvert the back button facility - do they think we are completely dumb and won't notice the same page reloading????? It's as ineffective a marketing tool in my opinion, as people who call me at home. I won't go back to a site that does it. Grrrrrrrr.

I couldn't agree more, Georgina. Not only is it annoying, but it gives little credibility to the site. When I visit a site and can't use the back button I feel as though I have been conned in some way.

It is pretty sleazy for sure, although it is not something you see much of these days.
