You don't need to spend any money at all ...tempted? Read on....

Hi there ... thought this was the most appropiate place to tell you about a bit of a competition that has just started at gekko.com. If youre good at creative writing or even if you just feel like reviewing a restaurant that you've been too then read on ....The prize which is just priceless : is to become a food critic for a month, with four free meals for two at the best restaurants in your area. To enter, all you need to do is sign up to Gekko.com (it's a bit like facebook) and review a hotel or restaurant. If you do this, you are automatically entered into the draw to become a food critic for the month! For more info about this competition visit the Gekko Blog. The best bit is that, at the moment, not many people are taking part so the chance of winning is pretty high compared to most competitions. What are your thought on this competition?
Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong thread - I am more then happy to take it down.

It is probably good comercialism for restaurants, they get extra clients when they may not have done. For the web site, they get lots of reviews for very little cost.
If one of the specifications was that each review have at least two critisisms - that might change the whole concept! It might also make it more realistic.

I would love to have four free meals in the best restaurants in our area - if only there were any! Around here quantity is valued over quality. We have one 'supposed' foodie eaterie, but as DH is a wheat-free vegetarian, the only 'choice' he is ever offered is risotto. Even wheat eating vegetarians only get one option for starter and main and that usually repeats i.e. two pastry dishes, or two goats cheese dishes (chefs seem to think the most exotic and high spec ingredient veggies can expect is goat's cheese - it isn't) Oooh I have so much spleen to vent I better head over to Gekko and pretend I live in Ludlow!

Who pays for the meals when the first reviews are send in to join the competition? It sounds to me as though that is the time when the restaurants are making good profits - which is why it seems that the deal is not really free meals in any way.
