I have a 5 year old Canon camcorder which cost £500 from Dixons. It has hardly been used (say 10 hours max I would estimate) and has now stopped working. I would expect such a good quality item to last longer than 5 years, especially with such little use and it is always kept in its bag and stored carefully. Would I have a valid claim for a free repair from the seller? I bought an extended warranty which lasted 3 years, and expired in 2007, but is it true that the SoG Act allows for goods to be repaired (or other remedy) for up to 6 years if the item should reasonably we working still? I suppose the main question is whether a camcorder should last longer than 5 years, but I would say yes given the cost/quality of the item in question? thanks, Steve.
