I purchaced a new fridge freezer in april 2007 at a cost of £1741 i have spoken to the retailer that supplied me the fridge and said that i thought the appliance which has stopped working all together should have lasted longer and it should be protected by the sale of goods act the retailer said it is not covered and it is upto the customer to prove the fault was there when the fridge was made is this correct

Hi Nigel,

You are both correct - it is covered by the Sale of Goods Act and when an item is over six months old the burden of proof lies with the buyer. All you neeed to do is get an engineers report stating that it is broken. If it has happened through normal use then they should pay for the repair and the engineer's report.
