When I was a student I was fortunate enough to have three Chinese fellows in my halls who loved to cook, and were very proud of their national cuisine and liked to feed it to the rest of us.
However, we did try to repay the favour a couple of times by treating them to an English roast dinner, all clubbing together for the ingredients and to cook the meal. It was mostly just for bonding, but it also saved money. Or rather, it meant that for the same money we could eat considerably better. Four people chipping in three quid each can eat a lot better than they can spending the money separately.
