Hi.. I recently purchased a second hand car from a Specialist garage. It was a 58 Reg (Nov 2008) and sold as late 2008 model. I also specifically confirmed that it was the newer 2008 models as they had a manufactures update called MY08 however I did worded in the sense of "it is the latest build". The main difference is to do with the weight of the car rather than anything else.

I only found out yesterday that the car wasnt this latest model as another major change was the type of boot lock. I then was recommended to check the tyres which are dated (I didnt know this!) July 2007. Therefore it looks as if the car was delayed in being registered.

My main question is "Where do I stand?". I don't really have a problem with the car however I did specifically spend at least £1500 more on buying a 2008 model than going for a 2007 registration! Also how do I approach the dealer?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Was the car significantly not as described? And would a reasonable person agree with you. This is the test that a judge would use if it went to court. It sounds very subtle to me.

Thanks Tony for you quick reply. It was the first main update of the car since it came out in 2006. Most of the updates are to do with the weight of the car and economy. The worst part was I was comparing another car with this one which was a few months younger (Feb 2009) on a 09 reg however I went for this due to me thinking it was the same car but with a couple of extras (sunroof and heated seats!) and I thought it was worth spending the same money on it with only the reg number being different!

It seems the whole model build was different after all!

I am still not sure how significant the difference is and the fact you didn't notice suggest it is not very significant. What car is it?

Hi Tony..

Its an Alfa Romeo 159 Sportswagon. I didn't notice as buying the car from a specialist I wasn't expecting it not to be following conversations on the telephone with them. They are authorised Alfa service agents so they have no excuse of not knowing it!
