hi what are my rights in this situation.

To cut a long story short, comet came out to fix my freezer which broke within the 12 month guarantee period.

Without agreement with me they decided that a refund was more economical for them and wrote to tell me so. I really want them to reapir it or at the very least exchange it. problem is the diference between what I paid for the broken freezer and the cost of the cheapest one they currently have in store is £50 and they expect me to pay that.

Can I expect them to provide me with a working freezer at no cost to me or are they within their rights to basically refund me what I paid and leave me freezerless.

Hi Roger,

Yes they can offer a refund if it is uneconomical to repair or replace the item. You can however ask for the money and buy it somewhere else. They are also allowed to deduct an amount for the usage your have had.
