I hear this phrase all the time on television and read it on packaging for products etc. The thing is I don't actually know what my statutory rights are! I have never questioned it. Can anyone who is up on Consumer Law enlighten me as to what they are?

Sale of Goods Act

Luckily Catriona has written a guide about your statutory rights as a consumer as defined in the Sale of Goods Act.

It is interesting what your Statutory Rights are not. Many many people think they have the right to a refund if they change their mind - this simply isn't the case. Tesco, Marks and Spencers, Argos and most high street shops will do this which is the cause of the confusion. There are some exceptions such as transactions covered by the Distance Selling Regulations and products that have a cooling off period.

Thank you, I now know where I stand, I feel empowered!! I thought the part about second hand goods was very interesting as I tend to buy a lot of things from charity shops or private sales.
