Hi
We bought our lcd from asad in May 07 and at just 16mths old it just went off we done what the manual said for troubleshooting but nothing worked so we contacted asda straight away but was told basically nothing they could do as the 12mth warranty was up we said that you would expect it to last longer than 16mths. Ive seen on here about the EU Directive about the 2yr i was wondering if i was to contact asda again and told them that we got in touch at the time it broke and explain the eu directive would they say it has been longer than tha 2yrs from now or would they take it from when we first contacted them when it happened.

Hi,

There is a lot of confusion about the EU directive:

Find out about the EU directive 2 year warranty | Consumer Information

What you need to do is refer to the Sale of Goods Act. You are rights it is reasonable to expect a tv to last longer than 16 months. However, when it is more than 6 months from purchase they can reasonably ask you to prove that the fault is due to an inherent fault. Also in terms of remedy they can repair, replace with a refurbished TV, or provide a refund deducting an amount for the usage you have had.

HTH
