Broken after purchase

Hi there,

I recently bought 6 single wine glasses from a store. When i paid at the checkout, the cashier appologized for not being able to provide bubble wrap for them so i just just put them in carrier bags.
I drove home and found out they were broken when i got home.
I went back to the store today and they told me they wouldnt give me an exchange or refund because it wasnt their responsibilty that they broke in my car.
Im wondering if im actuall entitled to an exchange, considering they couldnt provide wrapping for the glasses?
Any advice would be appreciated!
