Loss of goods by repairer

My niece bought a TV at Christmas from Currys. This unfortunately had a fault so was returned to Currys for repair. TV was repaired but has been lost by Currys (or their repairers) in transit and is presumed to have been stolen. TV was bought at a special low price (sister in law works for Currys!) but now Currys are saying that they will not replace with a new TV, but will only refund price paid which would not be enough to now replace with similar TV. Are they correct in not replacing TV? I look forward to any feedback. Tonyb.
