Finally...

Posted 29th April 2009 at 06:20 PM by GlasgowGirl

Last blog ever on the subject of house-selling and buying, I promise! We moved into our new home over the weekend, and luckily, it is just as nice as we remembered.

It's a sobering reflection on the housing market as it currently stands that it took just over a year from putting our old flat on the market to moving into our new one. Our new neighbours are just advertising their flat for sale (nothing to do with us, I hope!) and I'm finding it hard not to be the voice of doom about...

Less than a week to go

Posted 19th April 2009 at 10:22 AM by GlasgowGirl

I feel like I have posted about little other than selling and buying houses ever since I've joined this forum - but the end is in sight. We are due to get the keys to our new flat next Friday. On Saturday we'll be handing over great lumps of cash to John Lewis for a dishwasher, washing machine etc, and Sunday is the day of the Great Move. It will be so, so nice to have our own space again!

So after Sunday, no doubt I'll be constantly posting about painters, decorators, cost of flooring...

Getting there

Posted 25th March 2009 at 10:24 PM by GlasgowGirl

We have had a written acceptance from the sellers! And our mortgage offer turned up at the same time, so yesterday was a big day all round. So all we need to do now is get our electrician to confirm that the repair has been carried out correctly, and then we can finalise the contract.

And then we can organise getting our stuff out of storage, and think about decorators, and look at new furniture...I hope that somewhere in my future, I'll get to do some sitting around with my feet...

It's all gone a bit quiet

Posted 16th March 2009 at 09:34 PM by GlasgowGirl

Haven't heard much from our solicitor lately. I emailed her today but no response yet. However, the estate agent who's selling the flat phoned saying she needs ID from us, so it sounds as if things are progressing. We're still hoping to move on 28th April, which is not that far away - I really hope it happens. Today I was working in Edinburgh, which involved getting four different trains and travelling for around three and a half hours. The end of all this can't come soon enough...

The wheels keep slowly turning...

Posted 9th March 2009 at 10:56 PM by GlasgowGirl

The electrical survey on the flat that we're interested in found one fault - something to do with an inconsistency in the earthing. We still want to buy it so we have removed the survey clause in our offer but added a clause that says the electrics must get a clean bill of health from a registered electrician before we'll pay - basically the owner needs to fix the problem. They seem OK with that so hopefully tomorrow we can finalise an entry date - it all seems to be taking so long!
