Swine Flu. It's good to know plans are made.

Posted 23rd July 2009 at 03:01 PM by happywriter

With all the chaos that surrounds many current government decisions it is good to know that contingency plans have been around for quite some time to deal with empidemics and pandemics.
It sounds as though somebody just thought - let's have a flu hotline. But reality must be different. The programming, networks, contracting, and all the other parts of the infrastructure needed extensive planning and resources.
Lets hope it all works out for the best. The NHS may not be the best in...

£60 billion of UK taxpayer's money is promised - from where.

Posted 3rd July 2009 at 10:33 PM by happywriter

I am very disturbed when the leader of the England promises to pay an amount £60 billion to the rest of the world. It makes no difference what the purpose of the payment may be, climate change resolution or any other.
If the money is not available, how can it be paid? Can a really sensible person promise to pay an amount which is clearly not available.
Then, what is really is scarey, if the leader of UK is not sensible - how is UK being led?

Why does the UK have the worst of both plastic and paper driving licenses.

Posted 4th June 2009 at 12:24 PM by happywriter

During many years of working overseas I have held many different driving licenses from different countries.
Some have been the modern type of plastic credit card size, normally with a photo. Some have been a little booklet, with a photo glued in; with many stamps and authorisations.
However I cannot remember any other country, apart from modern UK, that needs TWO documents to make one complete driving license for each person.
Surely, all the rest of the world is not wrong...

Our local paper headline was "Woman jailed for stealing £18.000".

Posted 24th May 2009 at 09:15 PM by happywriter

An recent edition of our local Exeter newspaper had a headline of "Woman jailed for stealing £18.000".
Given that the recent disclosures of MP's activities have suggested fraud in some cases, as well as other doubtful activities, I wonder if the same rules will be applied to all citizens. Of course, money can avoid the penalties of law in many cases - by hiring better lawyers, if nothing else.
Does society have the same laws, and results, for all? I don't think so!

USA politicians do not have 'second homes'. MP's started this fraud.

Posted 17th May 2009 at 09:33 PM by happywriter

There are many countries in the world, USA is a primary example, where politicians represent their constituants in the capital. Hotels and apartments are used as a normal method of accommodation - as other normal people would use them.
I consider the 'second home' as a basic fraud, - saying it enough and will become truth - by many MP's over a long period of time.
It was never more than another method whereby politicians could add to their incomes and lifestyles by means paid for...
