Default Faulty microwave

on the 28th Dec 2007 I purchased a microwave/Convection oven from Argos. Over the past couple weeks I have noticed that the door is cracking from constant use of the pull type (integrated in door) handle. Because of this I had to stop using it as I feel it is unsafe. I have contacted Argos and they say since it is over a year old it is no longer under guarentee and they are not obliged to replace it. Is this correct? I would have thought the microwave would last longer than a year. Do I have any rights to have it replaced? Thanks.

There is no automatic right to have it replaced, but you should be able to get it repaired for free. This is one of your statutory rights:
