Smile GM Group an insiders experience

Hello,

I am new to this forum, and just wanted to say what a fantastic source of information it is. Having read the posts about GM Group, and it phone sales activities, I just wanted to say something. I am a student presently reading economics, and like most students wanted to make a little extra money by doing some part time work. I answered an advertisment in the local newspaper for telesales agents that has been posted by GM Group Ltd.

On arriving for my interview, along with about 25 other people, we were given a short personal interview and then told a bit out who we would be working for and their policy about honesty when dealing with potential customers.

It was STRESSED big time that we should never lie and that all calls were recorded. Our line manager said that if anyone was cought "bending the truth" they would be dismissed Immediatly and escorted from the building.

We were given a script that had to be read and we could not say things like pretending we were calling from another company or stuff like that.

All the time calls are being made a supervisor was walking round and listening to our conversations and the whole operation was closely monitored.

I admit that in my first week three people did get sacked on the spot for saying things to customers that were not in the script, and everyone knew that if you did you would be out and no messing.
Sure there is a lot of pressure to perform, but I expected that but my experience of the company was that they were very serious about not misleading customers. We were even told that if we did and if the customer compained we could face criminal charges for Fraud.

I am sure that in any organisation there are a few bad apples, but my experience with GM Group was that they played the game by the rules.

Regards
Sapphire

Question GM Group

I haven't seen these posts "Having read the posts about GM Group, and it phone sales activities" Are you talking about another forum?

I think this is the thread in question:

Quote:
I took out a new three contract three months ago. I had to get a new number (another story) and since taking out the contract i have received a high number of calls (sometimes 1 or 2 every day) from this number: 08701111422.

Using 'Say no to 0870' If found the number belonged to GM group.
GM Group Corporate

At first i just ignored them, and sometimes when i picked up the line was just dead. The other day i picked up and some guy started asking me about my contract, eg when it was going to end.

I refused to tell him anything and asked if he worked for three and he inferred that he did. So i asked why he could get my details then and he said he was in a different department. I also said i did not want to be contacted by them in the future.

The next day they called again, they were very lucky i missed it...

I later rung Three and asked them if Gm group worked for/with them and they stated they are just a selling business and do not provide services for three.

Tried to ring their landline number but got placed on hold waiting for a customer service person and could not be bothered to wait...

Has anyone else been called by them?
Any solutions?

Will try and ring their landline again later.

It's nice to hear you had a good experience working for GM, my sister did work for a while as a compliance manager for a sales company {making sure people didn't do the hard sell/breach guidelines} but I think it is a responsibility for people to report salesmen {and women} when they go too far because while I appreciate that if people are paid only on commission then it's no sale, nothing to eat I don't think they realise how intimidating it is.
I also have a real thing about silent calls!!

Abbey fined £30,000 for silent calls - Business News, Business - The Independent

We were getting so many at one point that I was starting to get paranoid that one of my patients had got hold of our phone number Given that people have tracked down psychiatric worker's homes before and it's never ended well I had quite a few sleepless nights.

Abbey National are not the only ones that have been fined. Barclays were too - see this thread - Barclays fined for "silent calls"

Have you signed up for the Telephone Preference Service?
