When you buy something from a shop you are entering into a legally binding contract. Therefore they don’t have to give you a refund simply because you have changed your mind. Only if one of your statutory rights is breached (i.e. that the item is damaged, of poor quality or not fit for purpose) do they have to give you your money back.
Shops will often tell you they will only give a refund on production of proof of purchase. Don’t be mislead into thinking this must be a till receipt. It can be a bank or credit card statement, although you may run into difficulties if it is for a different amount than that of the item you are trying to return.
More Common Complaints
- They say I’ve taken ownership so it’s my responsibility
- The shop doesn’t want to know, they say it is the manufacturer’s responsibility.
- It’s second hand – do I have any rights?

Scs Beckton I brought a sofa and carpet for the front room the sales person told me they was discount on the carpet and sofa I told them I wanted to paid the full balance of £1424.60 which I paid after a measure up another £64 was paid for the extra carpet, which brought it up to £1488.60 and was given a date for delivery and fitting the day came no carpet when you goes to store they saying we owe then another £300 pound which has been paid another week to wait they telling us the whole house is upside down no carpet in front room.
Bought some flea treatment for our cat which was recommended by the receptionist (we normally order another one in), after reading reviews regarding this product decided not to use it as our cat is in his autumnal years (15) and did not want him to have any problems with this.
Decided to take flea treatment back (it had not been opened), to our vets and exchange it for our usual treatment. They would not have this treatment back although it was unopened, and was going to exchange it for the usual treatment. Apparently it was “company policy” and once leaving the premises that was it no refund or exchange. So have ended up paying almost £70 instead of about £35 all because of this “company policy”. Very very annoyed that they have done this, have been a customer for over 30 years at the same practice.
Is there anything I can do as feel been treated very unfairly?

I recently purchased an aerial but got someone to fit it. simple , apparently not as I was informed that my aerial was too flimsy so i bought one of theirs they fit it to just below the gutter considering everyone else’s is on the roof due to a church being in the way and it has effected channel choice and the viewing..phoned numerous times only to be fobbed off as so far nobody has turned up 2weeks and 7phone calls and counting
I bought a bra for a dress which I told the assistant at the time. I asked if I could return the bra for a refund if it did not go with the dress I was buying it for and was told yes by the assistant so I went ahead and bought it. On trying it on with the dress the bra showed above the dress line so was visible to other people so I decided to take it back. When I returned to the shop I was very sharply told that they only do credit notes and exchanges. As this wasn’t a shop o would normally buy from and because I was told I could have a refund I stood my ground ended up dealing with the shop owner and after mentioning the consumer act and trading standards she decided to refund me fully and then barred me from her shop!!
I dont care about being barred but was I right to demand my cash back??

I recieved a pair of shorts on the 4th or 5th of January this year and I tried them on, only to discover as I was taking them off, that a nail was in there and had scratched part of my leg. What can ask the company to do when I email them?
I paid for two items (One second hand, the other new) in a furniture shop. It was agreed I could leave the items in the shop until I moved to my new home which I had made an offer on. If the second item got sold in the meantime, I could have my money back. The move fell through but it was decided I would still leave the items in the shop until I found another place. 1 year down the road I have still not moved so asked for my money back. The shopkeeper is refusing to return my money. I have a receipt.
I bought a pack of 3 shirts from ‘next’ priced at £39 with a sticker on the front and £39 on the small barcoded sticker that they scan but when i got home and happened to look at the reciept when i took the pack out the bag it stated that i had infact paid £45 for this set! (Never realised in the shop as this pack was bought with other items) am I due the £6 back?
my comment is I took my car to the shop. And they said my transmission was gone. So they brought me a transmission and installed it. And they gave we a warranty for 6months. But my transmission went out again in 2 1/2 months. who is responsible for it-and my warranty has 41/2 months more. Do i pay anything or not. They bought it and put it in…do I pay labor or not. I feel that it is still under warranty. What should I do.
Can i still return products gotten from Primark after 29days
