Am I entitled to a Cash Refund?

About one month ago I needed to replace the waterproof trousers that I wear when walking my dogs (in typical British Summer weather). I decided to buy a good quality product rather than risk wet knees by buying something cheap. I therefore went to a Specialist Outdoor Sports Shop where I purchased a pair of "Rab" trousers that I was assured were completely waterproof (and carried a label to that effect). I paid the, not inconsiderable, price of £110.

On the THIRD outing of the over-trousers today, in light rain, I returned home to find the trousers I was wearing beneath the Waterproofs to be wet on one knee.

I took the trousers back to the shop to complain and was told that the item would be returned to the Manufacturer "for assessment" and if necessary, repair.

Despite my insistence that the goods were "Not fit for purpose" I was not given any option to exchange the trousers for a different brand, nor was I offered a refund. I was told that the store would either return the trousers to me when repaired or, if a repair was not feasible, they would give me a Credit Note (not a refund).

As I have now lost all faith in that store and their products, am I entitled to a Refund now so that I can purchase a replacement item elsewhere?
