Hi i took my ring to the jewellers to be reparied - a claw had broken off, they have repaired that fine but in the heating process the black around the stones has come off - they say its rhodium plating and are going to try and get it re done for me next week by another jewellers. However if not, they say they've done the work i asked them to do to a satisfactory standard and tough that they'''ve ruined the black area.

i dont think this is acceptable and think they should be replacing the ring at their cost - £250.

Hello,
The jewellers are incorrect, under the Supply of Goods and Services Act , all work must be carried out with 'reasonable care and skill' . A judge would be in your favour that damaging the ring would not constitute taking reasonable care and skill.

Although legal fees would probably cost you more than the ring itself, best option is to try and reason with them. Perhaps threaten them with a lawsuit would do the trick
