Dodgy TV - Warranty repair not being done

I bought a TV for £811 in 2007. A 3 year warranty was included. Within 12 months, the picture became defective (a black line appeared vertically on the screen). I sent it back and, as they could not repair it, I got a replacement with a confirmation that the original 3 year warranty would apply to that set. A few months ago the same fault occurred to this set and, still within the warranty period, I got the set collected. The time for return was estimated at 7-10 days. Now, some 6 weeks later I have been told that it needs a new TFT panel (screen) and the manufacturer is not supplying parts to the nominated repairer who cannot give me any estimate as to when the set will be returned.

With the world cup looming, what can I do to ensure that I can see the matches? Can I buy a new set and claim a refund from the retailer or manufacturer?
