I purchased a phone from CEX and it was faulty, returned it within 28 days, they agree its faulty, but they have none of the phone in in their area of similar quality.

They say I cannot get a refund, and would not budge on only giving me store credit and not a refund. So I left the store with the credit as there was nothing else I could do.

What is the legality of this? And if I go back and tell them this was illegal will I have a chance of them changing my store credit to a refund?

Thanks for Reading

Terms and conditions, Terms and conditions, Terms and conditions, Terms and conditions, Terms and conditions. Simple.

When you buy a phone from them you're entering their binding agreement that, should the item need to be returned, they can give you a like-for-like model or store credit. You're not worse off but no better off either.

It's the same as a retailer like Sports Soccer who will basically only exchange for the same item or give you store credit.
