MY daughter bought a dress from Reiss high street store (£145) a few days ago. Selfridges are now selling the dress for 30% discount. The receipt from Reiss store says that you can return the purchase within 14 days for exchange or credit note. We want a full refund so that she can buy the dress in Selfiridges and save over £40! She's a student! What I would like to know is can they legally not give a full refund?

Absolutely, retailers are not obliged to give you an exchange or a credit note, let alone a full refund unless the item is faulty or you are covered by the distance selling regulations in which case you have a seven day cooling off period. It is a common misconception - I blame Marks and Spencers for this, but they have set a good precedent for other retailers.

I am sorry that this is not what you want to hear.
