Hi, I purchased a rover 25 for. £800 in december. After just 3 days the car would not start and I had it towed to the garage I bought it from paying £40 with no costs refunded. The small garage took over a week to sort them problem and had to have a friend collect the car due to my work ours. I was informed that the timing was out but they had fixed it now.

Since then, the car seemed to work fine for a short period of time (Aproximatly a month). Following this short period I have had nothing but problems, from the car struggling to start, losing huge amounts of water and finding a leak from a pipe. I don't know a lot about Caruso I stopped driving it so that no damage could be caused, I have now been told by a mechanic that my head gasket has gone, and I may have a crack which will ultimately make my engine of no use.

I would like to know what rights kid any I posess as I feel none of these problems should of happened after this short space of time.

Any information will be apreciated. Thank you

Firstly you should not be out of pocket in relation to having an existing fault fixed so they should pay the towing cost, obviously the timing isseu existed at the time of purchase.

As far as the head gasket is concerned, you are correct not to drive the car as it could cause major problems and although a head gasket replacement is a specialist job, it's not as huge as a replacement engine!!!

Have you spoken to the garage about the latest problems? could be that you could come to some agreement on a repair although you would have to prove the problem was pre-existing for them to carry out the repair FOC.

Your rights are relative to the age of the car and the price you paid/sales pitch.
