This will be my first year of self-assessment for tax purposes. I would like to know what is likely to be accepted as tax-deductable costs for internet costs, computer purchases, etc.
I guess that I should try to ensure all possible costs are presented as my business costs, but do not want to 'flag' up myself as a high-cost claimer.

Simply, anything that is exclusively for business use. Or you allocate a proportion for business use if it's shared. But if you try and get away with claiming the lot when you work from home, expect questions from HMRC. Their attitude is that they are fair with you when you're fair with them. As for hardware, the rules change every year but generally you get to set the capital off and then a bit of depreciation every year.
