Hi everybody,
Can anyone advise on my situation?
I recently renewed a policy for public liability insurance and was told by the company that I could spread the cost over 10 monthly instalments. I agreed to this over the telephone. Unfortunatly the last direct debit was returned as there were insufficient funds, but subsequently went through. I then received a letter from a credit company informing me that they had charged me a default sum of £20 pounds even though the £20 direct debit had cleared.
I have never signed a credit agreement with this company but in their letter they offer me the oportunity to electronically sign an agreement by visiting their web site. It seems that the insurance company has entered into this agreement. Is this legal? I have at no time been made aware that I was entering into a credit agreement, have signed nothing, and have not received any terms and conditions for this credit agreement. I have in effect been entered into this by proxy. I would welcome any comments on this matter. Many thanks.
