Hi everyone, new here and looking for some advice

back in september 2009 i bought a used car from a well known local dealer

its 4 years old and had 47,000 miles on it with FULL dealer service history

and i payed just over £8000 for it

in december 2009 (now at 50,000 miles) as i was driving to work, i changed gears from 3rd to 4th and suddenly lost all power and was joined by lots and lots of thick white smoke coming from the exhaust

a mechanic friend advised me that it looks like the turbo oil seals have gone and upon checking the oil, the dipstick was bone dry !! (bearing in mind i had checked it the previous saturday and topped it up to the required level)

i rang the dealership where i purchased the car from and they say they cannot do anything as it was 6 days out of its 3 months warrenty, so i contacted "trading standards" to which they advised me they were right about the warrenty but under " the sales of goods act", they should inspect the car to determine whether its "wear & tear" or "mechanical failure" .

in the meantime i have had a second opinion from a trusted specialist, who tells me its not wear and tear and the car has been burning oil, thus causing it to run dry and damage the turbo & seize the engine !!!

where do i stand with this?, i am right in thinking a multi point inspection should have been carried out? and is this something that should have been covered in its FULL dealer service history ( all done by the same dealer i purchased it from)

can i fight this, argueing that it was a underlying problem upon purchasing the car?

any help appreciated !

PS. said dealership are picking the car up tommorrow to inspect the car themselves, but im quite confident ill be getting a phonecall to tell me that its "wear and tear"
