Projector problems

Hi all,
Wondered if I could pick your collective brains for a little advice please!
I bought a projector from a large retailer about 18 months ago, at a cost of £500.
After 6 months it stopped working. Retailer tried to send me to the manufacturer, but eventually agreed to deal with it themselves and replaced it.

1 year and 1 month after, the replacement also stopped working. Took it back to retailer, who insist we must deal directly with manufacturer.
Tried to argue that the contract of sale was with them, but they point blank refused to have anything to do with it, insisting we deal with the manufacturer. They claim that they are only obliged to be of any assistance during the first 12 months, and as it has been 13 months, they will not assist in any way.

The manufacturer have agreed to collect the unit to inspect, but I am a little miffed at having to go to the hassle of this when I feel that I should be dealing with the retailer.

Any ideas? I am I right to insist that I deal with the retailer rather than the manufacturer?

I feel that a unit costing £500 should last more than 13 months.

Any help gratefully received.

Wendy
