Charge for laptop in warranty??!!!!

I bought my Toshiba laptop from Staples seven months ago - keyboard totally failed, refusing double letters, backspace and scroll won't work, etc, etc

Took it back to the Staples store, only to be told that Toshiba won't accept it back for service unless I agree to pay £60 for their time if they DON'T find a fault

However, the guy at Staples spoke to the Toshiba tech department, claimed they'd fixed it via telephone advice and gave it back to me as sorted - but it's not

Please can anyone advise?? Surely my warranty is with the shop, not the manufacturer? Isn't it up to them to get it sorted for me, rather than expect me to pay, especially as they've claimed it's now okay and it isn't? And what the heck do I do now?
