I have been a customer of Emo Oil , now Certas Energy UK Limited, who supply me with heating oil for my property.
The account is in my husbands name, the builder who installed the boiler before we moved into the property 21 years ago, registered us in the Pwllheli Depot. We then set up a Direct Debit to pay monthly.
The Bank Account is a joint account and either of us can initiate payments with out the sanction of the other.
Yesterday I received a request from Certas
"Account Amendment Form to be completed - as your bank details is in joint names and we require the account to be the same."
On inquiring why after 21 years I needed to amend the account details I received this response.
"Hi
Due to Data Protection Act - we require the bank account details to be the same as the account.
As the bank account is in joints names we require your name to be added to the account as it is only under your husbands name.
This will allow us to amend our records.
"
Can anyone throw any light on this please?
