? EC Warranty Rules

Hello I am new to this forum board, but can anyone help me with a query? I would like to know the current status of the Warranty rules. I understood that as part of the EEC that Manufacturers were duty bound to provide a full 2 year warranty ?

Can anybody substantiate this and possibly even point me to the source of information ?
